City of Marquette Offices Closed for Presidents’ Day

City offices located at Marquette City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Avenue; the Lakeview Arena, 401 E. Fair Avenue; the Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front St. (in the Peter White Public Library); and the Municipal Service Center, 1100 Wright Street, will be closed on Monday, February 21, in observance of Presidents’ Day. Marquette Police, Fire, and Public Works and Utilities will remain operational during this time. 

There will be no change in garbage pickup for City residents.

Annual Special Events Meeting: Participation Details

The annual meeting of Special Event holders in the City of Marquette will be held Tuesday, February 22 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  This meeting will be held virtually, with event holders and City staff attending remotely. This meeting will discuss updates on the process for special events for stakeholders and event planners.

Marquette Public Art Commission Meeting

The Marquette Public Art Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 9 at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will be in-person in the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front Street, Marquette.

Public Participation

There will be one public comment period for the meeting, at the beginning of the agenda. Comments are limited to three minutes and speakers must give their name and address before speaking. Written comments will be presented to the board during the meeting and can be submitted by emailing tmorin@marquettemi.gov. Written submissions will be accepted until 5pm on Wednesday, February 9.

February DDA Meeting Announcement

A regular meeting of the Marquette Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors will be held Thursday, February 10, at the Marquette Commons, 112 South Third Street. The meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m. Masks are encouraged.

Thursday, February 10, the Marquette Arts and Culture Advisory Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. This meeting will be in-person at the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center, 217 N. Front Street, Marquette.

City Commission Schedules February 14 Public Hearing

Notice is hereby given that the Marquette City Commission will hold a February 14 Public Hearing on the Consideration of a Brownfield Plan for the Ore Dock Brewing Company.

The Combined Brownfield Plan contains the requirements under Act 381, P.A. 1996, as amended, that provides for capture of increased incremental property taxes on qualifying Brownfield Eligible Property to reimburse certain Brownfield Eligible Activities to assist in the redevelopment of the property. The Eligible Property included in the Combined Brownfield Plan is the property and blighted building at 214 S. Front Street in the City of Marquette, Michigan.

At the public hearing, all citizens, taxpayers and representatives or officials from any taxing jurisdiction subject to capture shall be afforded the opportunity to be heard regarding all aspects of the Combined Brownfield Plan.

A copy of the Combined Brownfield Plan is available for public inspection at the City Clerk’s office in Marquette City Hall at 300 W. Baraga Ave. 

The public hearing will be held in City Commission Chambers at City Hall, 300 West Baraga Avenue, at 6 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022. Any person wishing to comment on the proposed items may do so at that time.

Promotional Fund and Discount Fee Waiver Applications

The Marquette City Code (Section 2-522) provides a mechanism for community stakeholders to submit for waivers of City fees and/or in-kind services provided by the City and/or cash payments. Requests for Promotional Funds may include grant funding, fee relief, provision of in-kind City services, cash, or a combination of any or all these items.

Applications for Fiscal Year 2022-2023, (October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023) must be received or postmarked by March 31, 2022.  Any applications received or postmarked after this date will NOT be eligible for consideration.  It is important to note all applications may not be funded.  Funding will depend upon City priorities and available dollarsApplications and information are available on the City website at www.marquettemi.gov or at the Community Services, Parks & Recreation office located in Lakeview Arena at 401 E. Fair Avenue, Marquette.

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, February 9 from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library.  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.
