Applications for City Commission Now Available

Applications are now available for City residents seeking appointment to the vacancy on the Marquette City Commission.

The applications can be found online at www.marquettemi.gov/commissionapplication, and in person at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 300 W. Baraga Ave. The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24.

Under the Marquette City Charter, “vacancies in elective offices shall, within 60 days, be filled for the unexpired term of the officer whose office has become vacant, by appointment by a majority vote of the members of the city commission then in office of a person possessing the qualifications for the office.”

Survey to Inform the Future of Marquette Land Use

The City of Marquette has launched an online survey to solicit input from residents and visitors.  Information gathered from the survey will be used in the development of the Master Plan, a long-range document that guides future development and land use in the City.

All people who live, work, learn, and/or recreate in Marquette—of every gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, income, and ability—are encouraged to take the survey at this link:

“Depending on who you talk to in Marquette, there are a lot of different ideas about how our community could or should change over the next 20 years,” says Dennis Stachewicz, Director of Community Development. “This survey provides a means to capture those ideas to guide our goals and Master Plan.”

The survey is open until Wednesday, January 25, and includes questions about city priorities, the quality of public facilities and services in Marquette, and opportunities and challenges facing city neighborhoods.

Paper copies are available by request in the Community Development office, located on the first floor of the Municipal Service Center at 1100 Wright Street. All responses will be kept anonymous.

This is the first of multiple community surveys and activities to inform the Master Plan project.
