Absentee Ballots Available, May Be Returned Through Election Day

Registered voters who have received an absentee ballot have until 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 8, to return their completed, signed absentee ballot to the City Clerk’s office.

Absentee ballots may be returned:

  • By mail to 300 W. Baraga Avenue - one stamp is required
  • In person at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 300 W. Baraga Avenue
  • To one of our three, 24-hour secure drop box locations:
    • Lakeview Arena – 401 E. Fair Avenue
    • Municipal Service Center – 1100 Wright Street
    • City Hall – 300 W. Baraga Avenue

Absentee ballots may be requested by mail until Friday, November 4, and may be picked up in person in the Clerk’s Office until 4 p.m. on Monday, November 7.

Opening Receptions for PWPL and DEO Galleries

On Thursday, October 13, from 6-8 p.m. the Peter White Public Library and the City of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture will be hosting the opening receptions for the three art galleries within the walls of PWPL.

Marc Himes and Louise Laakso Lundin will be giving their artist talks at 6:30 p.m. in the Deo Gallery.

The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning Students will speak beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Huron Mountain Club Gallery.

The Deo Gallery is owned by the City of Marquette and is located in the basement of the PWPL in the City’s Arts & Culture Center; it is curated monthly by the Lake Superior Art Association. The Deo Gallery’s exhibit will be up through October 28. PWPL galleries’ exhibits will be up through November. Receptions are free and open to the public.

Wilson Street Closure to Through Traffic

On Monday, October 10, Smith Construction will be closing a section of Wilson Street near US41 for paving work. Wilson Street will be closed to through traffic between US41 and McClellan Avenue. The work will occur just south of the entrance for the Holiday Inn. A detour route will be posted via US41 and McClellan Avenue. Access will be maintained to all residences and businesses. The work is anticipated to be completed the same day but is weather dependent.
The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.

Magnetic Street Closure - Presque Isle Avenue to Third Street

Starting Thursday October 6, Superior Paving will be closing Magnetic Street between Presque Isle Avenue and Third Street for paving work. The work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the day Monday October 10.

The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction and advisory signing.

Marquette City Manager Community Office Hours

Marquette City Manager Karen Kovacs will hold her next community office hours on Wednesday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to noon in the main floor conference room of the Peter White Public Library.  The meeting is intended to provide an informal opportunity to discuss issues within the community, and to give citizens the opportunity for direct dialogue with City staff about interests and concerns.

Waste Management Recycle Cart Collection

The yellow-top recycling carts are being collected by Waste Management upon the completion of the blue recycling cart rollout. Please leave all yellow-top carts at the curb until they are collected. These carts will be recorded and repurposed as garbage carts for other residents. If you believe your cart was missed, please contact Waste Management at 906-662-6065.

Marquette Senior High School Homecoming Parade

On Friday, September 30, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and continuing through approximately 6:30 p.m., the Marquette Senior High School will be holding their annual homecoming parade. 

The parade will begin at the Graveraet School, exit west east on Hewitt Avenue to Third Street, proceed north on Third Street to Magnetic Street, then west on Magnetic Street to Lincoln Avenue, then north on Lincoln Avenue to College Avenue, and then west to MSHS High School parking lot.
