This unique historic rental is located on the grounds of Lighthouse Park in Marquette, Michigan, a small peninsular park that juts out into Lake Superior and is capped by the iconic red Marquette Harbor Light. This property is surrounded on three sides by Lake Superior and is the easternmost home in the City! Historically, this home was the residence of Coast Guard Captains of years past until the property was transferred to the City of Marquette and renovated for rental.

This three-bedroom, one-bathroom home has two queen beds and two twin beds along with a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. Additionally, there is a front porch overlooking Lake Superior and a forested backyard with a patio space.

The Captain’s Residence is the perfect setting to enjoy all Marquette has to offer. The home is full of light, decorated with local art, and features incredible views of Lake Superior The southern side of the house faces Marquette Lower Harbor and the northern side faces McCarty’s Cove, the most popular family beach in the area. Additionally, the home is steps from the City Multi-Use Path, a 12-mile-long paved non-motorized pathway connecting all parts of the City, and less than a mile away from Downtown Marquette!

Revenue generated from this property is utilized to maintain and improve Lighthouse Park. The buildings on this property are historically registered and the maintenance and upkeep of these facilities have been entrusted to the City of Marquette. Your rental contributes to this historical preservation and will enable us to continue to transform the property for better public use!

House Artists

The Captain's Residence utilizes the City of Marquette Arts and Culture division to coordinate a rotating exhibition of local artists. Art is available for purchase upon request and 30% of the sales are dedicated to the Lighthouse Park fund.

Brian Kakas

Sculptor

Brian Kakas is an Associate Professor of Ceramics at Northern Michigan University. He received his MFA in ceramics from The University of Notre Dame and BFA from The University of Montana in the United States.

Kakas has been in over 50 solo and group exhibitions, is part of national and international museum permanent collections in China, South Korea, Australia, Indonesia, Romania and the United States. He was awarded the Silver Prize at the 5th Korean World Ceramic Biennale at the World Exposition Ceramic Center. Other career level exhibitions include the 1st Kaolin Grand Prix for International Ceramic Arts Exhibition in China, Cluj International Ceramic Biennale held in Romania and the 3rd Jakarta International Biennale in Indonesia. Kakas has participated in creative residencies at centers such as the LH Project, Oregon; Archie Bray Foundation, Montana; Gaya Ceramics and Design, Bali; FuLe International Ceramic Art Museums, Xi’an China.
