Division Responsibilities

Tax Collection

The City bills and collects current year taxes for all Millages levied for various entities in two installments which cover the calendar year January 1st – December 31st. As of March, of the following year the tax roll is turned over to our County Treasurer for further collections.

Payment Methods

The City is able to accept cash or check by mail or in person with no additional fees. To pay with credit card there is a 3% fee or $2 minimum, or there is a flat fee to pay with e-check. Click here to find out more or pay online.

Millage Rates

The Treasurer’s Office collects and reports taxes for the City, the library, the Downtown Development Authority, public schools, Marquette Alger Regional Educational Services Agency, the Heritage Trail Authority and the county. These different agencies have different millage rates that are billed twice a year for tax collection (see above)

Landfill Permits

A permit is required through the City in order to haul out to the Marquette County Landfill. There are two permit types: temporary and annual. To get a temporary permit, haulers must have a City utility bill in their name. Any charges from the landfill will show up on their utility bill. Parking Tickets/Citations

City of Marquette’s Police Department issues parking citations, this includes expired meter and restricted violations. Collections are handled by the Marquette City Treasurer’s Office. Payment is due within 30 days or it may result in impoundment of the vehicle with 4 or more citations. All citations and fees must be paid in full to release the vehicle.
