Fire Safety Code

You may purchase a copy of the NFPA codes at: nfpa.org or call 1-800-344-3555 / iccsafe.org or call 1-800-344-3555. You can also view physical copies in the City Clerk’s Office (300 W Baraga Ave)

Commercial Inspections

Commercial inspections are performed annually for businesses that require a business license from the City. Inspections are also made when a State Liquor License is applied for or modified. Life safety inspectins are also conducted upon receipt of a complaint. Click here to see the business license page.

Tenant/Landlord Disputes

The City cannot provide legal advice to either tenants or landlords regarding disputes. Rental code violations can be reported to the fire department at (906) 228-0412. Click here to view the state’s webpage regarding renter’s rights.

Short-Term Rentals

The maxiumum number of short-term rental registrations allowed by Marquette City Code has been reached. Future available spots will be filled from a waiting list. Call the fire department at (906) 228-0412 to obtain a waiting list request form. Waiting list forms will be processed in the order they are received.

Rental Code Appeal Board

Any owner or operator affected by a notice of violation which has been issued under the Rental Fire Safety Code, may request a hearing on the matter before the City Board of Zoning Appeals, acting as the City Rental Code Appeal Board. The affected person shall submit an appeal request and fee to the Marquette City Fire Department within 21 days after the notice of violation is served.
