The City of Marquette and Marquette City Band invite the public to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and inaugural Marquette City Band concert at the Peg Hirvonen Bandshell on Presque Isle, Thursday, June 25 at 7:00pm. In the event of rain, the ceremony and concert will be rescheduled to Friday, June 26 at 7:00pm.

After nearly a century of use, the former Presque Isle Bandshell was decommissioned in 2022 due to safety concerns. The City of Marquette and Marquette City Band partnered to plan the construction of a new band shell on the same site, guided by input from local performing artists, organizations, and community members. Designed by Minneapolis-based AWH Architects, the new Peg Hirvonen Bandshell boasts a larger shell, back-of-house storage, and improvements to accessibility, landscaping, and audience seating, however its design and setting are reminiscent of and pay homage to the former band shell. Thanks to the generosity of over 400 community members, the Marquette City Band was able to raise over $2.3 million to fully fund the project.

As part of their 2026 Summer Concert Series, the Marquette City Band will also perform at the Peg Hirvonen Bandshell on Thursdays, July 16, July 30, and August 6.
